Women : Ha????????????
Hahahahahahahahahha............................................
Though I am laughing, amused to death upon reading the front page of NST (I didn't buy OK, it's news on flight) I was saddened by the fact that Rais Yatim (Foreign Minister - errmmmm.... does that mean he's so foreign until he couldn't churn out some common-sense-prevail kind of proposal?) proved that he's from the dinosaur age. He's proposing that ALL WOMEN travelling out of the country ALONE be required to have a letter from parents or employers. Like what a LuLu said, this is even before the day of Tun Fatimah haha!!!! If the statement above is not sufficient to make you laugh, read the whole excerpts here.
The move is supposed to prevent Malaysian women from being duped into trafficking drugs for some international syndicates which according to NST, 119 were in prison worldwide for drug offenses with majority being 21 to 27 years old.
OK, the effort being taken to address this issue should be applauded but the proposed move is insanely impractical and invading the basic human rights. From employers and parents? Wow... maybe should get one of those Commissioner of Oath to endorse the travel documents and schedule (like if you apply VISA to Japan or travelling in Russia) by signing the approval and charge. Good money mah!!!
Seriously, this is not the way. And how do you define alone? I mean buying individual ticket considered alone? What if buying a ticket with other people or group ticket purchase via travel agency? Can you see how impractical it is? Or it's another Malaysia Boleh attempt to create the First this and First that record? If it is, then this sure get in.
yup, i agree with hopeful. it's an INSULT. n yes, Tan, it's against basic human rites. silly, actually..
ReplyDeletewelcome to the dinosaur age inhabited by ppl like Rais Yatim. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope I don't offend anyone, but let me point out the obvious... some women simply do it out of greed.
ReplyDeleteSure, some are duped, I'm sure some are just motivated by greed. So, other women shouldn't be made to suffer having to go through all the rigour as suggested by our minister on behalf of somebody's greed.
CK,
ReplyDeleteI want to pinjam the joke and put it on my blog can ah? :)
Thanks
HopefulPessimist,
ReplyDeleteOf course can. My pleasure :)
Helen,
ReplyDeleteThere were women who know indeed I think. I mean, not to confined this thing to women alone, men do that too. The point is, the consent thingy is not gonna solve the whole thing. It's like burning your house because you feel that it is too hot. Stupid.
I just travel out alone.. good thing they haven't implement anything of such yet, I'm unemployed n my parents dun write letter!!
ReplyDeletehow do they verify if the letter is written by your parents or not? even primary school kids know how to imitate their parents' signature.
ReplyDeleteerin,
ReplyDeleteluckily you went earlier.
huihui,
so now you know our minister's IQ even lower than the primary school kids!
