Taipei Exchanges (2010)

Taipei Exchanges (2010)

Director : Ya-Chuan Hsiao

Cast : Lun-Mei Kwai

Purely because of Lun-Mei Kwai, this sophomore effort of Hsiao after 9 years is is a feel-good work. Under the mentoring of Hou-Hsiao Hsien, I hope she will have more funding to make more movies. Looking forward to that. Though coffee house or cafe might sound a bit tad "out" now, I am still intrigued to visit it during my Taipei trip. Gonna be busy in Taipei this time!

Face (2009)

Face (2009)

Director : Tsai Ming Liang

Filmed in moi Paris, with special permission to shoot inside the Lourve I would say Tsai went overboard this time. He kinda used the same tactic in his previous work, The Wayward Cloud (2005). It's funny to watch Fanny Ardant being dubbed with the old Chinese "shi-dai-qu" but that alone won't sustain my attention.

Au Revoir, Taipei (2010)

Au Revoir, Taipei (2010)

Bought this just because of its filming location in Eslite Bookstore. Taipei, I will visit you soon.

Film-wise, typical Taiwanese movie with its "cold jokes" and dreamy plot.

So-So.

July 2010 - Taiwan CSers

Met up with my friend, Chia Chun and her mates in Taipei. We were having Taipei old street walkathon & eat-athon around old Ximen area.

Pics above taken at the temple, the last pit stop of the tour after a sumptuous beef noodle (sorry, Cameron, we didn't know you are vegetarian) and a special local flavor traditionally made ice cream. Too bad the "po pi liao" was closed at night so we couldn't see the place where the latest Taiwanese box-office "Monga" was filmed.

As usual, it's great to catch up with fellow CSers and again, thanks to ChiaChun for such a lovely night. Your effort towards greener life is definitely commendable and I will emulate it wherever and whenever I can. I will start by having a pair of chopstick around with me!

And of course, to Ethan and Sappho, it's great meeting you guys. Ethan, I guess we will have more lengthy conversations if we have chance. And Sappho, enjoy your trip to Spore and Siem Reap! And yes, ChiaChun, I am happy that now Taiwan will be ready to take over %h^n& with the great Eslite bookstore!!!!!!! Conquer it culturally!!!!!!!!!

Hakka Jazz - Emily 官灵芝 ( 头摆的你 )

Another dialect jazz album. This time, it's from Taiwan where this pub songstress Emily Guan 官灵芝 contributed her voice in a delicious album of traditional Hakka folk songs given a jazzy spin. The title track, 头摆的你 made me decided to buy this.

The City Never Stop Reading

Yes...that's Taipei. With Eslite Dunhua Road open 24hours, Taipeians read all day. At 2am...the number of people in the bookstore is even more than the number of "non-stationary-buying" patrons in any bookstore in Malaysia any time. 好幸福噢!

Oct 30 - Hualien back to Taipei

Hualien Tourist Information Centre

Hualien. The name sounds very Ah-Lian but it's a nice place to stay. Cool weather and laid back life.

Yilan station on the way from Hualien back to Taipei.

Back to the train station in Taipei, scorching for food and I remember about the famous Railway Biandang 铁路便当.

Unagi anyone???

Chicken or pork chop ???

Nice wooden container. Recyclable!!! Bravo Taipei!!!

Mana lagi??? This is in the famous Theatre in ShiMenDing. During that time, it's the promotion period of the Japanese gals group called Morning Girls (Morning 娘) so there were many fans lining up.

At night, we decided to go to the Maokong via cable car to the teahouse.

It's kind of rush and we reached there almost at their closing time. The closing time of the cable car was near as well too.......

Hence, the simple fried rice

And of course.... have to 叹茶 enjoying tea in Maokong.

with this the Taiwan series will end.

indonesia coming soon........

Oct 29 - Hualien 花莲 (Taroko National Park - 太鲁阁)

We decided to take a motorcycle up to Taroko National Park. The traffic sign is sufficient to direct the first timer like us up to the national park.

The motor above was rented in the only motor-rental agency in Hualien that rent to non-international driving-license holder, Xiao Ma 小马 (Little Pony) which is just around the train station. Oh, by the way, it's not a motorcycle; it's a scooter. Never drive a scooter before indeed hahaha....

Half-way, the traffic was stuck in the tunnel. The road was blocked one way an hour. It's blocked to repair the landslide which happened during the typhoon few weeks before that.

Lunch at the top of the small town. And yes... you may recognize the purple rice again....

Landslide warning aplenty....

Nice little temple reachable half-way.

Muncungkan mulutmu???

The Taroko National Park HQ

The nice Sandakan-St.Michael-like church half way from Taroko back to Hualien.

Night market and feasting time!!! The famous Hualien Coffin!!!

It's yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!

The nice room we stay in. Again, it's quite cheap. It's about RM90-100 if I remember correctly.

Literally translated as The Corner Hotel

Oct 28 - Taipei 台北 & Danshui 淡水

Typical LRT/MRT/Metro station in Taipei.

No visit to Taipei is complete without visiting the Taipei 101

The famous Eslite bookstore, the branch near Taipei 101

Another Taipei 101 shot

Danshui approaching sunset.........

With a night market and sunset view to boast, visitors aplenty.
During summer, the Fishermen's Whaft is the place to go for concerts.

Of course... it's eating time again.

Taipei 101 the ice-cream version?

I think this is Ah-Gei 阿给 (stand to be corrected....)

Taipei 101 from the Hostel I stayed.
